Vintage deep carved cinnabar bangle bracelet, acquired in Hong Kong in the 1970s.  Unlike the molded resin cinnabar being made today, this bangle features deep crisp floral patterns,created through a combination of molding and hand carving.  The bangle is rounded with a smooth interior and  and fine carving on the exterior. The scales of a dragon's long body appears in places from under the foliar design, suggesting he is encirling the bangle. The bangle is 11mm in thickness and 64mm interior diameter.  The interior circumference is 7 inches (17.8cm.)

Please note about Cinnabar: Authentic Cinnabar is a deep red mercury sulfide mineral that is stunning but toxic to humans. The production of items made from real Cinnabar ceased over a century ago. Until the mid-1900s, Cinnabar was made from layers of lacquer over wood and then hand-carved, making these items rare and valuable. Since then, most Cinnabar beads and bangles have been made from molded resin. In the 1970s to 1990s, hand carving was added to enhance their appearance, but modern beads tend to have shallower molds and lack the same level of detail.
