Vintage deep-carved cinnabar bangle bracelet, acquired in Hong Kong in the 1970s. This piece stands out from today’s molded resin cinnabar, featuring beautifully detailed floral patterns crafted through a combination of molding and hand carving. It has a flat, smooth interior and intricate carvings on the rounded exterior. The bangle measures 9mm in thickness, 15mm in width, and has an interior diameter of 64mm, with an interior circumference of 7 inches (17.8cm).

The production of items made from real Cinnabar ceased over a century ago. Until the mid-1900s, Cinnabar was made from layers of lacquer over wood and then hand-carved, making these items rare and valuable. Since then, most Cinnabar beads and bangles have been made from molded resin. In the 1970s to 1990s, hand carving was added to enhance their appearance, but modern beads tend to have shallower molds and lack the same level of detail.
