Vintage blue, yellow and white Turiksh Evil Eye beads. Average 10 - 12 mm hole to hole and in width. These are hand made and each bead is slightly different in size. Backs are flat and smooth. String holes average 1.5mm.

Evil eye beads and amulets go far back in ancient history as far back as 3300BC, mostly in the middle and near east. They were used in Mesopotamia, Egypt,, Phoenicia and along the Mediterranean. They were a tradition in the Ottoman empire and are being made today in Turkey, Greece and Arabic countries. The evil eye amulet was believed to protect its wearer from actual malevolent envious eyes.
