Details

Antique Chinese Qing Dynasty coin silver hollow basket ornament. Two sided: the front and back have the same design. A carnelian bead hangs at the bottom. Basket is 1-5/16" x 1 1/2". The basket is attached to a silver link fashioned into a monkey and a hook with a bat.  4 3/8" long from top ring of the hook to the bottom of the silver dangle hanging from the carnelian bead. . The components of this pendant would have been parts of larger ritual or ceremonial pieces during the dynasty period.

A decorated basket such as this one symbolizes abundance.

This is an antique piece from the dynasty that fell in 1911. In the 1970s to the mid 1980s, Chinese workers added beads, cords and chains to these Qing Dynasty artifacts. For the most part the beads and knots attached to this amulet were added during this period. This piece came from the estate of a dealer who acquired many of these artifacts. They have become increasingly rare and today, some reproductions of much poorer quality are being produced.
