Ottoman silver Islamic prayer box amulet.Traditionally prayer boxes contained a scroll of scared texts to act as a talisman. This container opens at one end. Covered with detailed ornamental chasing accented with niello in the grooves. Arabic script on one side. The deep black niello is a compound of silver, lead, copper or bismuth sulfides that is ground into powder then melted into depressions in the metal. 2 rings on top to use as bails. 5 rings on bottom to hang coins or charms. From a collector's estate. 3.1 inches in length by .7 inches in diameter or 1 inch including loops. This is an old piece and has two dings and a solder repair on one of the bottom rings. Otherwise excellent condition.
