Victorian Whitby Jet choker necklace. Strung with Whitby Jet mixed beads with jet glass spacers. Dates from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. The bead portion is 14 inches. Black grosgrain ribbon is attached to each end for a tie closure in the back, which makes it adjustable for different neck sizes. Width is 1 1/2 inches in front to 5/8 inch at the back. All original beads, but newly restrung on black silk thread and new grosgrain ribbon that matches the original.This rare dog collar choker necklace is truly one-of-a-kind. This necklace is in remarkable condition for its age, but there are a few surface scratches and a few tiny "nibble" marks on the back sides of some of the beads. It is ready to be enjoyed for years. This style necklace was very popular at the turn of the century and was called Dog Collar necklace.
