Queen Victoria wore mourning black after the death of her husband Prince Albert in 1861, until her death in 1901. The rest of the British Empire followed, wearing mourning jewelry following the death of a loved one. This carved black glass pansy flower brooch is in very good to excellent condition and has a rolled rose gold back with c clasp. There is only slight wear to the rose gold back and a minimum of tiny chips to the glass petals that are mostly visible under a loupe. circa late Victorian period, 1880's - 1890's.
