This is a temple amulet or "omamori" from Todai-ji (Eastern Great Temple) in Japan and depicts a mouse or a rat. It is a Buddhist temple complex located in the city of Nara. The temple is a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to the Kegon School of Buddhism. Where the temple sits can be dated to 728 and was the project of Emperor Shomu as an appeasement for his son, Prince Motoi, who died a year after his birth. The pendant is 32x17mm on a 22" substantial brass chain with a spring ring closure.
