Victorian brass and pink gold overlay mourning pin with vulcanite. Mourning jewelry from the Victorian period was often constructed in loving detail as was this piece depicting a dove flanked by 2 knobs of deep black vulcanite. The details of the bird are extraordinary from the upturned head to the hand inscribed feathers on each wing. This pin also shows the influence of classical revival in the granulation work and twirls of gold beneath the bird. The pin back is in excellent shape and is original to the pin. A fine example of Victorian mourning jewelry in fine condition. Estimated to be circa 1850. 1.5 x .75 inch.
