Venetian 5 layer green watermelon chevrons in a barrel shape. 1 Str. b11-gr2075

This beautiful old strand of green 5 layer chevron trade beads have the wonderful red & white star pattern revealed on the ends. The glass was layered in canes, then cut, the design resulting from the layering and revealed on the cut gave them the names of 'star' or 'rosette' beads. Early 20th century, Venetian, 5 layer watermelon chevrons in a barrel shape measure about 5mmx7mm. These are the finely made originals, made for trade in Africa. One 17" strand. They are strung in the traditional manner on raffia with on overall length of 17". Excellent condition with tiny chips on only two of the beads.
