This antique Japanese Meiji period brooch is crafted from shakudo (an alloy of copper and gold). The Meiji period (1868 to 1912) marked the beginning of Japan's modern era, during the rule of the Emperor Mutsuhito, who chose the era name 'Meiji' meaning 'Enlightened Rule'. Crafted with gold and mixed metals, the brooch is 15/16 inch diameter and 2mm thickness, with a signature on its back.
