Details

Antique Qing dynasty hollow coin silver horse amulet. Similar design on front and back. A red coral bead hangs from the bottom of the amulet. The pendant alone measures 1-1/4" x 2". The amulet has been strung with a wood bead and pang knot. This amulet has unusual fine details: A thick vertical mane, fancy saddle, Bit and reins.

The horse symbolized speed and endurance. This horse has a moveable chain of bells around his neck, traditional for horse amulets made for Mongol horsemen.

This is an antique piece from the dynasty that fell in 1911. In the 1970s to the mid 1980s, Chinese workers added beads, cords and chains to these Qing Dynasty artifacts. The components of this pendant would have been parts of larger ritual or ceremonial pieces during the dynasty period. For the most part the beads and knots attached to this amulet were added during this period. This piece came from the estate of a dealer who acquired many of these artifacts. They have become increasingly rare and today, some reproductions of much poorer quality are being produced.
