Antique Chinese Qing Dynasty chased silver gourd bottle pendant with blue enamel . Threaded removable bottle stopper.   The gourd is decorated with alternating longevity and money symbols.  The bottle is held in place with a silver clamp with an enameled rat  with a long tail riding atop. At the bottom of the clamp hangs a  silver and enamel ornament from which is suspended a carnelian bead. The amulet hangs from a  1.4" length of silver chain with a silver enameled child chatelaine hook for hanging.  The gourd is 1-3/4" x 3/4".   The components of this pendant would have been parts of larger ritual or ceremonial pieces during the dynasty period.

The bottle gourd represents longevity and healing. These would often have held medicines

This is an antique piece from the dynasty that fell in 1911. In the 1970s to the mid 1980s, Chinese workers added beads, cords and chains to these Qing Dynasty artifacts. For the most part the beads and knots attached to this amulet were added during this period. This piece came from the estate of a dealer who acquired many of these artifacts. They have become increasingly rare and today, some reproductions of much poorer quality are being produced.
