From a collector's estate: Early 20th century Chinese nephrite jade toggle or button. Measures 1.75 x 1 inch. Two central holes and also holes horizontally placed at the outer petals. This is a more complex button with flat back and 3 layers of petals. A light celadon green color. Possible tiny chip at center top. These were used as hat buttons, garment or robe buttons, toggles. Jade hat buttons were often used to define ranking in the Mandarin court.. They made lovely pendants and brooches
