Antique 19th c. Italian Micro Mosaic Temple of Vesta brooch.The Temple of Vesta is an ancient edifice in Rome and is located in the Roman Forum. Micro Mosaics were popular purchases by visitors on the Grand Tour. Typical scenes were landscapes of Roman views. This is an early 19th century piece with extremely fine oblong tesserae. The early pieces contained up to 5,000 tesserae per square inch. This mosaic is set in a sterling silver setting with the original tube hinge and C clasp. The mosaic is in pristine condition, The image is framed in black onyx. and contains two minor small cracks, visible in the photos, that do not affect the structural integrity of the brooch. Measures 1 1/2 inch in diameter.
