The pocket watch gained popularity through the 18th and 19th centuries as portable time pieces. There were two main styles, the open faced and the hunter cased, or savonette pocket watch which had a cover that opened up. Pocket watch chains were also quite popular to attach a pocket watch to a waistcoat or to wear one around the neck. Both vintage pocket watch fobs and chains are available in a many styles - some watch fobs might be made of gold or silver, with ornate links in a chain, while others might be embellished with precious or semiprecious stones.
