A vintage elephant ivory okimono style pendant, a superb carving of a Geisha. The carving is very fine with meticulous attention to headdress, hair, and kimono. This figure has detailed carving and colored scrimshaw on on the entire pendant. This carving will stand on its own as a figurine but has been drilled top and bottom for a wire loop for stringing. It is not drilled through. She measures 3 inches in length and the base is 1 inch wide. The ivory is of excellent quality with a nice high shine visible cross graining and a lovely color and patina typical of first quality ivory. This piece is in perfect condition and has never been strung. This is most likely a mid-century piece and was purchased by a collector in Hong Kong in the 1960s or 1970s.
