Earthly Adornments - sked101-Edwardian 14ct Hair Pin

100 years ago, items like this would have been essential to every lady’s dressing table. Sturdy and ornate pins like this were used to hold in place the complicated hair styles made famous by illustrations of George Gibson. The delicacy of this pin is deceptive; it has a no-nonsense grip design on the long double tongs to hold the hair in place. The delicate spirals at the top of the pin serve double duty as a grip. Attached to the very top of the pin is a long serpentine chain and a twisted wire hood that would be anchored to a lock of hair to act as a safety to keep the pin from being lost. A lovely addition to your collection; it would look wonderful framed in a small shadow box. 6.4x1mm
