Dramatic vintage lapis lazuli dragon pendant set in 14k yellow gold and suspended from round 8mm. lapis lazuli beads; pendant measures 3.25 x 2.5 inches. Necklace circumference is 19.5 inches. The skill and intricacy of this carving is simply amazing, A pendant, carved in China, depicts an imperial dragon (the five toes on each foot mark this dragon as being imperial) twisting sinuously in a frame of stylized clouds. Every detail of the dragon, from its many scales, to its horns and curving whiskers has been rendered in great detail. Another exceptional feature of this carving is that it has been pierced with open work giving lightness to this large pendant and further displaying the skill of the carver. The lapis itself is of high quality in a stunning shade of deep blue with golden pyrite crystals and veins of white minerals. The white minerals indicate that the lapis has not been dyed to improve its color. The pendant has been set in a custom made frame of 14kt yellow gold held in place with 8 sturdy prongs. Dainty safety clasp also in 14k yellow gold.
