Hbvc706-Art Nouveau chatelaine German silver mesh purse
This purse, constructed in the late Victorian or Edwardian period was meant to be worn hung from a ladies waist sash or belt. Marked “G. Silver”,circa 1890.
The clip that attaches to the belt features a naturalistic pattern of a daffodil and a pansy that is echoed in the clasp of the purse which is worked into a design of lilies and a daffodil. The mesh of the purse is diamond-shaped and held together with fine silver rings. A fringe of 5 silver balls decorates the bottom edge. A few pieces of mesh are lost near where the corners of the mesh meet the clasp, but otherwise the purse is in excellent condition.
