A wonderful mid 19th century gilded brass brooch depicting a pharaoh or sphynx head encircled by a neoclassical border and mounted on a foliar setting. The Egyptian revival of the 1920s is well know but there was an Egyptian revival period in the 3rd quarter of the 19th century along with the neoclassical movement. Tube hinge and C clasp. Construction is very sturdy and the piece is in excellent condition. 3 x 3/4 inches
